Zimbabwe Polocrosse

Polocrosse is a fast-paced equine sport played on a 146m pitch on the backs of some of the most athletic horses that exist. Unlike polo, polocrosse horses are asked to spin back and go from 0 to 100 in a matter of seconds. The sport has often been called “Rugby on Horseback,” but once you have watched it, I am sure you will see there is nothing that compares to this sport.

In polocrosse, a team of six is broken down into two sections of three players who go onto the field for chukkas. Of those three players, there is an attack player/goal scorer at the number 1 position, a mid-field player who controls the game at the number 2 and a defender at the number 3 position. There are specific areas on the field the players are allowed and two umpires who make sure no dangerous play happens.

Zimbabwe Polocrosse has had some highs and lows; we have been rated the best in the world at one stage and in 2011, we came second in the World Cup, but unfortunately, we dropped to 6th in 2015. We are now building up to ensure we get one of the top spots back! To get there, we have decided that our players need more exposure. Therefore, for the first time in 28 years, we have the New Zealand Barbarians to take on the Zimbabwe Men’s A side at the ZOL Polocrosse International. This is going to be a heart-racing event that you do not want to miss!

The test matches will be held on the 4th, 5th and 6th of August at Borrowdale Country Club on Carrick Creigh Road. Admission is free and the fun begins at 11am. We hope to see you there for a fun family day out and some heart-racing entertainment as you watch the sport that thunders!
