The Chibuku Road to Fame 2017 National Final roars into life! In partnership with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, Chibuku Road to Fame is a Musical Sponsorship Programme that was launched on the 27th of October 2001, by Delta Beverages as a musical showcase to identify musical talent. The main objective behind the talent identification competition is to afford aspiring musicians an opportunity to interact with established musicians as well as assist them to record their work, thus contributing to the development of the music industry in the country whilst they entertain the Chibuku consumers.
The showcase aims to promote the development of music through the identification of groups with potential to produce recordable material and assist the winning groups in documenting their work through an album. Chibuku Road to Fame has grown phenomenally over the years and has upheld its intent to foster, develop, and improve knowledge, understanding and practice of the arts and their presentation, performance, execution and exhibition to the public.
Chibuku Road to Fame is the single largest musical talent identification programme in Zimbabwe. The running theme for this year’s competition is “Ngazviende Mberi” coined from a popular Jah Prayzah song which is premised on the theme of the Chibuku Road to Fame sponsorship; to carry on the musical talents of young men and women in Zimbabwe. The 2017 edition of the competition drew entries from across Zimbabwe at the launch on the 8th of July 2017 at Chibuku outlet Club 75 in Mvurwi. In Mvurwi, ten groups of hopefuls belted out their original musical compositions to a captive audience which drew a Provincial winner for Mashonaland Central and gained them an automatic entry into the National Final. Exciting Provincials have been held across the 10 provinces of Zimbabwe and groups are now polishing up their acts to compete for the Grand Prize of $7,000 and a recording contract which will be awarded at the National Final on the 30th of September at Glamis Arena in Harare. The 2nd prize winner walks away with a cool $5,000 and the 3rd prize winner receives a whopping $3,000.
The 30th of September 2017 promises to be a colourful day where consumers from far and wide will get an opportunity to attend the Chibuku Road To Fame competition free of charge as well as to support and encourage their favourite groups in the competition. The event then explodes into a musical bash when after the winner is crowned; big and established Zimbabwean musical acts will perform on the grand stage. These acts are drawn from various musical genres that include Afro-fusion, sungura and Dancehall music. The established acts will entertain the crowds as well as motivate the upcoming music hopefuls to dream big and emulate their experienced performances on stage. In recent years the Chibuku Road to Fame has had musical greats such as Oliver Mutukudzi, Jah Prayzah, Winky Dee and Alick Macheso gracing the stage as they belt out musical hits the Chibuku consumer knows and loves. The Competition draws crowds of over 10,000 people who also enjoy their Chibuku Super and Chibuku Scud traditional African beer that will be on sale at the licenced Chibuku Bars at Glamis Arena. Last year’s winners Adequate Sounds from Harare will also get an opportunity to take to the stage and showcase their musical prowess at the National Final. Lots of competitions, fun activations and give-aways await all those that will be in attendance as they form new friemdships and bonds of brotherhood that will extend into a lifetime. Chibuku Road To Fame 2017, Ngazviende Mberi!
