We began the evening with a delicious Delaire Graff Rosé paired with a thin crust Margherita pizza – this Rosé is really good and we highly recommend it as a summer wine. Sorella’s Margherita pizza is simple and very tasty – a great match to begin the evening!
Next we tasted a crisp cold Foothills Chardonnay with a divine Mushroom and Goat’s Cheese pizza. The Chardonnay went so well with this and would make a great summer lunchtime pairing.
A Foothills Pinot Noir matched very well with the Hawaiian pizza. We then tried the Blaauwklippen Malbec with a Thai Chicken & Avocado pizza: this was my personal favourite! The Malbec is a full-bodied wine to go with your main course. The Pinot Noir is a very different tasting wine and may not be to everyone’s liking, but we thoroughly enjoyed it with the pizza.
The last option before dessert was a Biltong pizza paired with a Boplaas Cabernet Sauvignon. This was also such a great pairing and the Boplaas is a very easy drinking red. We loved the Biltong pizza, as it’s so typically Zimbabwean to think outside of the box and add biltong to a pizza!!!
The evening ended with a Flagstone fortified wine, The Last Word, and a Nutella, Cashew Nut, Toasted Marshmallow and Strawberry pizza. Well, I must admit that while all the pizzas were fantastic, this dessert pizza was just sublime! Although the fortified wine is sweet, it paired nicely with this decadent dessert pizza. We were extremely happy and satisfied customers.
Well done to Gemma and Kiara for their delicious pizza and to Vanessa and the Cellar Wine Merchant for a fabulous evening.
