Sole Sistas Review: Amanzi Lodge

This stunning boutique hotel is a short drive from the hustle and bustle of Harare. From the moment we arrived we knew we were in for a treat.

The Rooms

We were warmly greeted by Ruth and her friendly staff, who showed us to our rooms to freshen up before dinner. Amanzi has 16 luxury rooms and suites nestled in the most exquisite gardens. Each room is named after an African country and is artfully decorated to reflect the style and character of its namesake; you will want to come back again and again just to sample each unique setting. The rooms are well appointed and have been carefully thought out to make your stay as smooth and comfortable as possible. The bathrooms have a spacious shower as well as a bath. I could throw open the shutters and enjoy the beautiful garden from the hot scented water…the perfect way to unwind after a busy day!

The Food

We met for pre-dinner drinks in the cosy and well-stocked bar where we enjoyed the unusual artefacts lovingly collected from across Africa that adorn the main dining area. It is truly an Aladdin’s Cave of treasures! We were pleasantly surprised to be presented with a full menu that included numerous options for each course. We selected calamari and a salad for starters.

Both were delicious and the perfect portion as a prelude to the mains, for which we sampled a melt-in-the-mouth slow-roasted pork belly with crunchy crackling and a smooth, creamy apple sauce, and perfectly cooked fillet with velvety pepper sauce. Impressively, the vegetable sides were prepared differently for each dish: cauliflower and broccoli in cheese sauce and roast new potatoes with the pork, and steamed broccoli and Dauphinoise potatoes with the fillet, which we thought showed a great deal of care and attention by the chefs.

By that stage, we were both replete, but being foodies we couldn’t possibly skip dessert, so we conceded to share. We were delighted we had when we tasted the rich chocolate fondant topped with chocolate sauce and served with ice cream.

Having enjoyed our delicious meal and excellent service, we retired to our private balcony for a nightcap before falling into our big comfortable beds that were adorned with the highest quality linen for a blissful night’s sleep.

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and Amanzi Lodge clearly take this very seriously. In addition to a beautifully displayed continental spread of fruits, yoghurt, pastries, cheeses and cold meats, there is also an impressive range of cooked breakfasts on offer. These range from the traditional omelettes to Sweetcorn Fritters, Cinnamon French Toast and a Breakfast Sushi Roll, all made with free-range eggs.

And everything else…

Amanzi offers spa treatments and a gym adjacent to their swimming pool, as well as a tennis court and conferencing facilities.

We were very sad to leave this haven and highly recommend it for both leisure and corporate accommodation. Thank you to the management and staff for a fabulous stay! There’s no need to stress about scarce foreign currency and battle through crowded airports…book into Amanzi Lodge and you can be in The Seychelles, Zanzibar or Morocco…
