Last year, award-winning Amanzi Lodge began a series of “Pop-Up Chefs” that has taken the fine dining scene in Harare by storm. Owners Andrew and Julia Mama and their team developed a dining concept that highlights the fabulously talented chefs in Zimbabwe. Every month, Amanzi Lodge

invites a team of accomplished chefs to prepare an exquisite six-course meal. Perfectly paired wines accompany the mouth-watering meal and, not surprisingly, these events are incredibly popular and are often sold out.

The Mamas are delighted to have a platform that can promote young, creative, up-and-coming chefs, as well as offer an established venue to promote acclaimed chefs. Some of the guest chefs have included names like Karleigh and HD Fraser of The Venue, Tjaart Walraven – Bake Off judge from South Africa, Callie-Anne Gavazzi of Callie-Anne Cooks, Joseph Croisette, Michelle Small and Megan Langworthy. The stunning ambiance of Amanzi Lodges, tucked away on Masasa Lane, is simply beautiful and delivers the perfect atmosphere for fine dining of this nature.

On July 13th -15th, Lee Vermaak and Joanna Green teamed up to deliver an impeccable meal that the “Pop-Up Chefs” at Amanzi Lodge are becoming famous for. Lee owns one of Harare’s top catering companies, Gourmet Girls, and Joanna Green studied at the Institute of Culinary Arts in Stellenbosch before moving on to become a private chef in the UK and a food stylist in South Africa. Lee and Jo’s menu is shown here and the photos speak for themselves. These girls can cook!

With each meal, wines are expertly chosen to accompany each course. Last month, Jane Watson of La Distra Brut wines provided guests with expertly paired wines from Boschendal, Steenberg and Graham Beck.

Next up on Amanzi Lodge’s “Pop-Up Chefs” list is the private chef of the Chinese Ambassador. Andrew Mama assures me that this is a meal not to be missed! It will be six courses of authentic Chinese cuisine, prepared at the highest level. Paul Williams and Scott Fraser of Craft Society will present the wine pairings. This function stands to be wildly popular so book your seats now for the 28th, 29th and 30th September.
