If you haven’t been to the happenings at the Jam Tree lately, it’s time to get there!
THE JAM TREE
Kirsty Benning of the Jam Tree Market, Scotty Fraser and Paul Williams of The Craft Society, and Janine Williams of the Jam Tree Restaurant have all collaborated to create a dynamic space that offers so much to Harare.
Every Thursday from 8:30am – 12:30pm, the Jam Tree Farmers Market is bustling with stalls of vegetables, organic fresh foods and meats, free-range eggs, specialty foods, baked goods – you name it, the list goes on! This community-based project supports local farmers and enhances local businesses, a practice that is key to maintaining our environment.
This Farmers Market is a great place to meet friends and enjoy a delicious meal or coffee from the Jam Tree Restaurant. My favourite dish on the menu is the pulled pork quesadilla, but Kirsty swears by the Camemburger and gourmet fries. Either way, you won’t go wrong here! The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday.
The market will be opening one Saturday per month beginning in September. Stay tuned to Harare Magazine’s Facebook Page and Calendar for dates.
THE CRAFT SOCIETY
Kirsty’s brother, Paul Williams, and his partner, Scotty Fraser, have recently launched The Craft Society, which is in the same venue. The idea was borne from a passion for craft beer and delicious wines. These wines and beers are available at discount case prices, and because they are sourced directly from the vineyards in South Africa, the prices are friendly.
The Craft Society hosts a tasting every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening on “The Wine Deck” to promote these breweries and vineyards that have not previously been imported to Zimbabwe.
The Jam Tree often has a great variety of bands and live music. One big event that needs to be on your calendar is Oktoberfest on October 7th. With several bands, wine and beer tastings, a selection of sausages and sauerkraut, you will not want to miss out on this fun!
